Delicious WA Goodies for the Jolly Season with Just In Time Gourmet

2016 has seriously flown by and the festive season is fast approaching! If you have a foodie in your life and are wondering what special treats you could get them for Christmas, then with thanks to Justin and Jodee from Just In Time Gourmet they’ve made that job a little easier and have put together a lovely list below of some delicious WA products to spoil your food loving nearest and dearest!

Christmas is coming Perth! The weather is warming up (slowly), the post-boxes for letters to Santa are out and everyone is starting to feel that giddy, gluttonous feeling of the festivities’ coming up. It’s the time of year for Christmas parties, BBQ’s, picnics, gift giving and dare we say it – plenty of food and wine to help us make that New Year’s Resolution of losing weight in 2017.

The best bit about being in Western Australia over the holidays in the non-stop supply of delicious gourmet foods. The restaurant and bar scene is simply bustling and alongside that we have so many awesome local food products from throughout the state ready to stock our kitchen pantries and fridge.

This year, we say have a WA-made Christmas – where possible shop local and support the West Australian food industry. Below are some of our favourite products to enjoy throughout the year, but especially at Christmas time as they have a certain ‘jolliness’ to them.

Bettenays Cranberry and Pistachio Nougat

If you haven’t jumped on board the nougat craze, then you should definitely start here. Bettenays are located in Margaret River and create their award winning nougat by hand! This decadent, chewy confectionary is best served up with a glass of bubbles and to be a little rustic present it on a chopping board with a cleaver (bring out your inner Game of Thrones geek if you must!). The pistachios are sourced from local Perth farms and are slightly toasted to match the sweet tart cranberries perfectly.

Whistlers Xmas Freckled Range

Whistlers Chocolate Company is based out in the Swan Valley and if you haven’t visited yet – then do it (and while you’re out there it’d be rude not to check out a few wineries & breweries too)! We don’t know many people who can turn down freckled chocolate and these Christmas inspired designs are absolutely perfect stocking stuffers. Plus, if you can resist the temptation they’d make great Christmas tree decorations – obviously to be devoured on Christmas Day whilst opening presents!

3

Truffle Hill Truffle Mustard

Christmas hams are already available in supermarkets and stores – so we say, let the ham season begin! Mustard is synonymous with ham, so why not add a bit of flair this year and divulge in mustard with the superb addition of WA black truffles? We have also heard through the grape vine that This Little Pig Went to Market’s Christmas Meal Kit is out of this world amazing and we think the Truffle Hill Truffle Mustard would be the cherry on top.

Latasha’s Xmas Cherry Chocolate Sauce

Chocolate, cherries and its gluten free! Latasha is extremely talented at making our taste buds swoon with her range of sauces, condiments, dressings and more. This sauce works a treat on a variety of desserts but our favourite is putting it on top of the Aussie favourite – pavlova. Whether you opt for a store-bought pav or make one yourself, this sauce will add that little extra touch that will have everyone envious of your cooking prowess.

5

Ogilvie & Co Seafood Delight Quad Packs

A Christmas lunch in Perth isn’t complete without some tasty seafood. From fresh tiger prawns to mussels, marron and fish – seafood is an absolute staple for summertime dining and Christmas is the perfect time to indulge even more than normal. Ogilvie and Co have delightfully thought ahead for us and come up with a quad pack of 4 sauces that perfectly pair with seafood and different palates around the Christmas table. So grab a lovely Great Southern Riesling or a soft red like a Swan Valley Shiraz and you’re set. The sauces in the pack include:

  • Horseradish & Dill Caper Dressing
  • Honey Chilli Dipping Sauce
  • Mango Mayonnaise
  • Seafood Cocktail Sauce

PS: This pack also takes fish ‘n’ chips night to that next level!

6

Wulura Olive Oil from Margaret River

Western Australia is producing wonderful oils throughout the state. Award-winning Wulura from Margaret River produce some sublime olive oils (alongside wines!) which perfectly accompany Christmas salads, vegetables or just to dip bread into for that special taste and texture. Next time you’re down in the Margaret River region, make sure to stop by their cellar door in Yallingup for the ultimate olive experience and taste through the Wulura range and learn about the endless uses for olive oil.

7

Arthur Wines Glass Slipper

Bubbles, red, white, rosé – Xmas isn’t the same without the odd vino right? The Arthur Wines Glass Slipper is a very special wine as it’s a fortified wine (similar to Port, where a distilled spirit is added to the base wine) made from the Chardonnay grape in Margaret River. It’s not typical to make a fortified out of Chardy so this is definitely a special treat. With touches of lime, lemon and meringue, your palate will be in heaven. Try this drunken cake recipe if you’re looking for something extra special for Xmas dessert.

8

Gourmetchef Condiments Range

We promise we won’t tell if you put these delectable condiments in little bowls and pass them off as your own master pieces – the flavours are simply sensational! The Red Capsicum Relish, Caramelised Red Onion Chutney and the Spiced Beetroot Relish are all gluten free. And the Chipotle & Lime Salsa has a friendly lick of spice to it which works perfectly with barbecued meats and Swan Valley Chenin Blanc 😉

WA’s gourmet food and wine industry has come a long way in recent years. Perth has become a top destination for devoted foodies and travellers from all over the world – which is why we are absolutely spoilt here in the Golden State with so much delicious goodness literally at our fingertips. So why not make this Christmas a WA-made one and support the local businesses by gifting and divulging in local products and produce.
