Crust Pizza are a fun bunch. Always keen to try new things and push the boundaries with their pizzas. Theirs is a vast and creative menu, with many an unconventional, but decidedly popular pizza flavour. I actually think that’s the appeal for a lot of folks, that there is something to please everyone. Plus they cater for those with vegan and gluten free dietary requirements, so they are out to impress quite a wide audience.
Most recently there have been a few new additions to their menu. A new pizza on their Upper Crust menu is sure to be a favourite amongst the meat loving set. The Veal Saltimbocca pizza ($25) has tender veal & thinly sliced Prosciutto, topped with a seasonal Heirloom Cherry Tomato Medley and Shallots, on a White Wine base, garnished with a sprinkle of Parmesan, Parsley and a Charred Lemon slice. So yeah, it sounded like a pretty darn amazing flavour combination!
And along with this new flavour, there is a new pizza style, or should I say pizza size that Crust are offering. Let me introduce you to the impressive Uno Grande….. which translates to A BIG ONE. Oh yeah! Ain’t it that! Pick your three favourite flavours from the tempting menu and have them arranged side by side, as a third, along a one metre base. It’s the equivalent of three large pizzas. Customers can top the Uno Grande with a selection of three flavours from the traditional and gourmet Crust ranges.
The Uno Grande came to be after Crust’s successful Guinness World Record attempt for the world’s largest dessert pizza. The Guinness World Record attempt took place at Retail Food Group’s (RFG) Franchise Expo at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre’s forecourt. Confirmation was received in March that Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar officially took out the renowned Guinness World Record title, prompting the new menu addition.
Crust General Manager Renee North said, “The Uno Grande is a direct reflection of our commitment to innovative pizza solutions and has been inspired by our record breaking dessert pizza”.
With thanks to Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar Mt Lawley I recently had the chance to tackle a Uno Grande with my GG, which was quite the fun mid week treat! It was decisions, decisions on the flavour front and we carefully perused the lengthy menu. In the end we decided to try the new Veal Saltimbocca (noting their are additional costs to include an Upper Crust flavour), along with the traditional Margherita (Mozzarella & Oregano on a Tomato base) and the Mediterranean Lamb (House Cooked Lamb roasted in Mediterranean spices, Tomatoes, Green Capsicum, Spanish Onions, Feta & Oregano on a Garlic Infused base, garnished with Mint Yoghurt & Lemon wedge). The chance to be in store while this beauty took shape was really entertaining, plus can I just say that the crew at Crust Mt Lawley are a delightful bunch! And despite the fully of activity and buzz of busyness they do all seem to be enjoying themselves.
So from base, to sauce, to toppings, to oven, to dressing to boxing, I got to see it all and seriously it is a well oiled machine and no step is overlooked at Crust. Everyone was working hard together to get it done. Great job team!
And then it was time. Manager Chris passed us the metre long box of pizza and it was time to eat. Exciting!!
Ingredients are fresh and tasty and the aroma had me throwing caution to the wind on the ‘I know it super hot but I just don’t care front’ and we reached in and eagerly took a slice. So good!
Definitely not something that two people were likely going to be able to finish by themselves, but we gave it a red hot go! The Uno Grande is actually designed to feed 8 people, which works out to be $8.60 per person – it’s $69 for 1 metre. So a great idea for corporate catering.
