WA Signature Dish – Buy West Eat Best!

Western Australia’s amateur cooks – get ready to fly the foodie flag! Quick, grab your aprons and wooden spoons and head to the kitchen because it’s time to get creative! As a part of Celebrate WA festivities there’s a new cooking competition on the calendar, mark it down because with thanks to the Department of Agriculture and Food the hunt is on for WA’s Signature Dish! Put our state on a plate 🙂

Officially launched on March 6th at the lovely Bistro Guillaume by the Honourable Ken Baston MLC, Minister for Agriculture and Food,

“WA’s Signature Dish is a unique way to celebrate and showcase the huge depth and breadth of local produce now on offer. Sell-out events such as long-table lunches and ‘gourmet escapes’ featuring WA chefs are clear evidence of a growing food culture and greater appreciation of the value of fresh locally-sourced produce.”

So there are four WA regions involved – Gascoyne, Great Southern, Southern Forests and Perth & Surrounds. There’s a list of beautiful Buy West Eat Best produce for each region and you need to pick a key ingredient and basically show it off. You create your own signature recipe with either one ingredient (or a few from the region if you’d rather) and you battle it out in the regional final. If you win this you’ll be sent straight to the Grand Final to be held on WA Day! You’ll be well prepared before the event with some expert tutoring by a Chef from your chosen region, including super Chefs David Coomer, Peter Manifis, Sophie Zalokar and Chris Taylor! Very cool 🙂

The finale is then judged by Guillaume Brahimi from Bistro Guillaume, Rod Broadfield, Food Editor at The West Australian and Ralf Vogt, Executive Chef Crown Perth. The winner will receive two days mentorship with the lovely Frenchman Brahimi at his Bistro Guillaume at Crown Perth and two days accommodation at Crown.

So if you love cooking and are passionate about beautiful WA products then be sure to enter this fun and fabulous competition. It shows off your cooking skills and our lovely State and highlights what a spoilt bunch we are here in the West 🙂
