How fortuitous can timing get? Moving office to Brookfield Place and then being asked to be a Brookfield Place Cafe Court Ambassador! Like I needed more of a reason to visit my new local cafe court! Actually I just love the fact that my new office is located so close to a cafe court and in this program I would be told which place to try and then sent a voucher to use. I kind of liked that because a) a free lunch is quite delightful but also b) the first few times I walked through the cafe court I have wandered back and forth in something of a bewildered daze, just overwhelmed at all the choices, so I liked that someone would remove that element of indecision for me.
So I got my first assignment and I was going to Mad Mex.
At Mad Mex our passion for Mexican food drives us to prepare the best quality gourmet Mexican food for our customers. We Love the Food & Culture of Mexico and are fighting to share that passion with our customers every dish, Everyday!
I hadn’t been there before but I enjoy Mexican, so I rounded up a willing colleague to come along with me and we headed downstairs for some lunch.
Now I had perhaps had a cheeky look at the menu online before we arrived, so I had a pretty firm idea of what I would be having. I locked in the Street Tacos (Soft) – 3 bite sized, juicy tacos filled with more meat, fresh coriander & onion, salsa & a wedge of fresh lime. I went for two pork and one chicken and also added some of the Roasted Tomato Medium Salsa and a serve of guacamole (for $2). Mr J ordered the Nachos – Tortilla chips w/ nacho cheese, black beans, pico de gallo, sour cream, jalapeños & lettuce.
It’s a food court, so service is smiling and speedy and you whip along the line up in the display case which includes fresh salady goodness like lettuce, tomato, etc and then there’s the cheese and a range of salsas. As you say yes to this and that, the little soft tortillas are loaded up with all your choices. Similarly with nachos you can go with a cheese sauce if you’d like, along with salsa, beans, sour cream, all the usual suspects for fans of tex mex.
All of our meals are completely customisable so you can create your meal to suit your taste and nutritional requirements!
I think I was quite pleased with the size of the soft tortillas. Three of them were going to be manageable, which I think is what you want for a quick weekday lunch. You don’t want to be falling asleep at your desk. The pork had plenty of flavour and had been slow cooked to a tender, shredded deliciousness. I also enjoyed the chicken and what’s not to love about your own little dish of guacamole to slather on your burritos at your will. They were nice little tacos.
Across the table Mr J enjoyed his nachos, but his only comment was that they could potentially be a little warmer. I could see where he was coming from with a few more seconds in the microwave likely to melt the grated cheese to a bit more of an oozy creation. But I can appreciate that in a cafe court there likely isn’t quite the time to do this but he enjoyed the flavours and felt it was a reasonable size.
So there you go. My first visit to Mad Mex and it had been a tasty affair. A good option to keep in mind if you find yourself like me, overwhelmed by choice. Give them a whirl!
Have you been to Mad Mex before? What’s your go to favourite lunching option?
