The Hummus Club have officially popped up in the CBD with their lunch time outlet in Trinity Arcade. Offering the favourites you may have already enjoyed at various markets and events around town, it has also been extended to include a few meat dishes.
I was all over the new additions and for my first visit ordered the Chickity Boom. In part because, yes, it is an awesome name for a dish, but also because it is a heavenly dollop of their creamy hummus, topped with tender marinated chicken pieces and a refreshing cucumber salad. You then of course get some fresh pita bread to go to town on the hummus. A handsy lunch is a good lunch.
I already knew I loved their hummus after trying it at the Inglewood Night Markets. The FLT option appeared to be a popular choice and one of my lunching crew went with that. They are super tasty.
Mrs P ordered a serve of kibbeh, I didn’t know what these were but as we found out they are made of bulgur (cracked wheat), minced onions, and finely ground lean beef, lamb, goat or camel meat with Middle-Eastern spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, allspice). The best-known variety is a torpedo-shaped fried croquette stuffed with cooked minced beef or lamb with onion and sautéed pine nuts.
To keep you refreshed you can buy a fresh pomegranate lemonade and if you fancy rounding out your meal with a sweet treat then a square of their homemade baklava is divine. With many other tempting menu items I suspect they’ll be seeing me back for lunch some time very soon……
Actually I’ve already been back for round two with Team Red from work. We ordered three dishes and had ourselves a right old middle eastern feast right there in the food court. One of those was the Chickity Boom again, because I knew how good it was but we also ordered the Beef and the Mushroom bowl. What I loved about beef bowl was that along with the flavoursome meat there was also some crunchy pita chips, which added some great texture to the dish. It’s fun to share and get the chance to try it all!
For all the details of opening hours at this new pop up venue and also which markets and events you can find The Hummus Club just keep an eye on their Facebook page and website.
