A major event on the Spring Into Armadale calendar runs from August 18th to September 24th and it is tulip season at Araluen! And it turns out I just love tulips! I made my Araluen debut last year and it was a stunning day out. Such a beautiful place, a really special and well tended part of Perth that everyone should visit. It is so entirely delightful to spend a few hours taking a pleasant wander throughout the park, so you can enjoy every single garden bed, which are full of brightly coloured blooms in every shade of the rainbow. Plus you have the option of packing a tasty picnic lunch to enjoy on the grassed space (and there is plenty of room!) or as with last year they’ll have a few food vans in attendance so you can also just pick up something to eat from them. Go check out those tulips!

It’s Yates Springtime at Araluen

It’s Yates Springtime at Araluen features over 145,000 Tulips planted throughout the Park as well as thousands of other bulbs and flowers in full bloom. Join us this Spring for an enchanting journey of colour in Perth’s Hills. Relax and reconnect with nature, enjoy a picnic under the shade of the Marri Trees or visit the Chalet Healy Café for lunch. There are bursts of colour at every turn as you walk the pathways of the Park including our Internationally recognised Camellias, Magnolias and Rhododendrons. Take a ride on Araluen’s Train to learn the history of the Park and enjoy a variety of cuisines from our pop-up food stalls.

Another event I visited last year was the Perth Hills Festival. Have you been to our fair Hills lately? So nice! This lovely rainy winter means that it is so beautifully green at the moment, well worth a drive. I have fond memories of an amazing roast pork roll when I visited….. plus I bought a really good carrot cake and an amazing jar of lemon butter and some wonderful fresh fruit and veg. I remember leaving with quite the heavy bag of goodies. It’s a great family friendly day out.

Perth Hills Festival is a community event showcasing local produce of the Hills area. Local businesses display their product and a wonderful friendly environment for families to enjoy. We have our celebrity chef on the day with cooking demonstrations and food sampling. Fruit tree sales at fabulous prices with helpful hints. The presentation tent always draws a good crowd. Bus tours to local orchards are very popular and interesting. Free rides for children under 12 and many stalls with interesting exhibits.

The Kelmscott Show runs over a Friday and Saturday in October and is a very well attended local event. Complete with fireworks on the Friday night it has a total showground vibe, complete with rides, vibrant side show alley, animal displays, classic show features like wood chopping and plenty of food vans to tempt every palate. I have fond memories of a visit last year, in part because I enjoyed a delicious feed from Meast, a middle eastern meat and rice plate that was both ample and tasty, which left me just enough room to then relive my youth with visit to a Mr Whippy van for a sundae, complete with chocolate and spearmint topping.

Make Smoking History Kelmscott Show

Friday night has the Spectacular Freestyle Moto X bikes and Fireworks Spectacular. Saturday is family day and hosts the popular Kelmscott Idol singing finals on the main stage, along with heaps of supporting musical performances. Over 80 exhibitors will showcase trade, variety and food and there are over 50 craft stalls to stroll around. There will be animal displays including sheep, goats, cattle, donkeys, pigeons, poultry, reptiles, alpacas and a nursery for children. For the third year we will have the very popular KIDS ZONE.

Located in the Bedfordale Hills, Rocksgate is one of the Perth Hills Wine Region’s newest boutique wineries. Pop by to unwind on a Sunday afternoon with a glass of red or a crisp rose overlooking the vineyard. Enjoy wood fired pizza made from fresh ingredients including herbs from our own winery herb garden and traditional tomato sauce.
