I know I’ve spieled on about Amphoras Bar before but I feel that when a place consistently continues to impress it warrants another mention. I visited this tasty tapas bar the other night with a few work collegues for a bite to eat and a bevvy. Fast, friendly service as usual, enough drinks on offer to keep everyone happy and a tasty selection of food. We ordered 5 dishes, which arrived nicely spaced out. First up was a serve of the Roasted capsicum and scamorsa cheese, arincini with basil pesto ($14). I love arincini and while I probably prefer them not to be as full of cheese, they were still delicious, especially with the perfectly crispy outside.
Following on from this we shared a dish of Crispy pink pepper baby calamari with came with fresh aioli ($15) – again very nice!
We’d never been disapppointed with the scallops in the past so thought we’d give their latest scallop offering a go – Fremantle seared scallops with chorizo, pear rosti and corn relish ($16). An interesting combination that worked well and I thought the presentation was great too!
It was a similar story with the pork – Twice roasted Plantagenet pork belly, parsnip and fennel puree, craberry and elderflower relish ($26) – entirely amazing, the pork just melted in your mouth.
And finally we tried one of the day’s specials – Moretan Bay Bugs served with in a light, spicey batter and a tomato and olive sort of tapenade (It was around $20 from memory). This was the first time I’ve ever had bugs, but it definitely wont be the last – yummo!
So if you are ever in West Perth for a bite to eat, my fingers will be crossed for you that Amphoras can fit you in, because it’s an amazing place!
