Tarts Cafe

I’ve been to two work breakfasts now at Tarts ,Café in Northbridge. They have a great private ‘Boardroom’ out the back and it’s a really lovely venue for a small group of around a dozen folk for an interesting over breakie chat about the outlook for the economy or currency strategy as it was on Tuesday morning.

On my first visit I had stuck with my staple of poached eggs on toast with a side of mushrooms and it had been good but I decided I’d mix it up with some different for my return visit.

And that’s when I saw them on the menu. Pancakes. Hard to resist pancakes and at work breakfasts (where I have the luxury of ordering off the menu) I tend to go for a more sensible eggs on toast combo. But I threw caution to the wind and decided pancakes are the way to go. I was excited!

All the more so when meals started to arrive. While other’s egg choices did look good clearly my pancakes stood out as a solid selection, three decent sized pancakes with a generous pour of maple syrup and topped with mixed berries and a dollop of mascarpone cream.

Light and fluffy, I powered through the first tasty cake, convinced I would easily finish the entire plate. By the time I turned my attention to the second I suspected my eyes were perhaps bigger than my belly…. and my belly is pretty big 🙂 I only made it half way through the second one. My challenge with the third was that it had soaked up a far bit of syrup and would have really upped the sugar rush I already knew I’d be enjoying for the morning if I finished it all. I think that would be my one suggestion for next time, would be to ask for the syrup in a jug on the side. They were very nice pancakes and I was glad I decided to change it up and order something different from eggs.

Definitely keep Tarts in mind if you have a breakfast meeting on the horizon. It’s a really cute spot on the edge of Northbridge, where staff are friendly, coffees are hot and breakfasts are big 🙂

I used to work with a relative of the owner of Tarts cafe… she used to always post pictures of the fabulous food on her fb account and I’d be drooling on each occasion! I still haven’t visited myself though. I think I have to, after seeing those pancakes! Yum!
