Whisk Creamery…… yes it is as good as it looks

The Caramel Sandwich from Whisk Creamery is something of dreams. A vision of beautifully sweet indulgence.

A Caramel Sandwich – A cronut filled with salted caramel gelato, burnt salted caramel sauce and topped with whipped cream and caramel sauce ($13)

Ever since I’d first seen a picture of this epic dessert I knew that one day I was going to try it. Definitely not an everyday food, but I’m of the opinion that there’s a time and a place for everything and everything includes a cronut, cut in half, filled with swirls of silky vanilla custard gelato, topped with whipped cream and generously drizzled with salted caramel. So when you get the call up to visit a bank in Subiaco for work and it’s the same suburb as the amazing sweet treats café as you’ve been eyeballing on social media for the last few months, it was honestly as though the stars had aligned. I rounded up a partner in crime and Miss K and I made our way from the CBD to Subiaco. Located a short walk from the train station down Rokeby Road, Whisk Creamery is a fairly pint sized venue. With a narrow shop front, if you didn’t know where you were heading, then you could run the risk of wandering past. We were helped though when we spied a few tables and chairs out the front and knew we had reached our destination. I liked the fit out. Beautiful wood featuring along the counter and behind glass cabinets a tempting array of topping choices for their gourmet cronut creations.

Whisk Creamery is the Nelva family’s passion for traditional food, made only from real and wholesome ingredients.
Using traditional Italian recipes and methods, handed down through the generations, Whisk Creamery is how gelato should be.
Brothers Davide and Simone, alongside their father Giulio, proudly serve you with a range of soft-serve gelato, each serve freshly made with love and passion.
Whisk Creamery is soft-serve gelato exactly the way Nona’s Nona used to make it.

I knew I wanted the Caramel Sandwich but I was briefly tempted by some equally enticing menu items…. The Delichoux, the Passion Berry Pav, the Pink Panther Cone… for another day. They don’t take too long to prepare once you’ve ordered and soon Miss K and I were each dreamily transfixed by our spectacular desserts. Yes dessert for lunch, why not? After snapping a few speedy pics the moment had arrived to actually eat it. Excitement plus!

We temporarily paused to contemplate how best to tackle it and then launched in with a knife and fork. For the first eager bite I tried to carefully balance a bit of everything on the fork, then smushed on a little more whipped cream for good measure. It was a bite of heaven, sweet heaven. The caramel sauce was well salted, the vanilla custard gelato was super creamy and the cronut was flakey and well dusted with donutty cinnamon sugar. It was an epic combination and as I polished off every last morsel I happily smiled. I would be bouncing off the walls after a sugar rush like this.

So next time you are in or around Subi and in need of a little sweet treat (Perhaps before or after the footy) then wander yourself down Rokeby and pay Whisk Creamery a visit.
