I went to Oakover Winery the other day with my family. Another trip to the Swan Valley, one of my favourite places in the world. It’s a decent menu – a fair few choices and also some specials. It was fairly busy the day we were there, which given the season is understandable.
We went straight to mains. Here is Dad’s lunch, he had the pie of the day, which on this occasions was like a potato topped shepards pie, which from all accounts was very tasty and I had one of the chips – nice! Also good that they included a side salad, as that much pasty can be quite heavy.
And this is GG’s meal – proscuitto wrapped chicken breast with sweet potato mash, creamy mushroom sauce and sugar snap peas…….what’s the problem with it? Well if you look carefully there is a bit of chicken that is still pretty much raw in the middle, see the pink in the middle? Didn’t impress us much to have to send that one back to the kitchen and they weren’t overly apologetic about it…. sigh! I mean they could at least say sorry for having sent out raw food!
Here is mine, and the same as what mum had. Its a pork cutlet served with caramelised apple, pear and fig, with roast potatos and balsamic glaze. Not too bad albeit the sauce got a little bit sweet towards the end.
And there was still a little room for dessert. but despite this I went for an incredibly indulgent slice of violet crumble chocolate cake.
I’ve been to Oakover a few times now and have found it a little hit and miss in terms of their food. I’m a big fan of the wines they have on offer, but I don’t think I’d rush back for lunch, given the other selections on offer in the Swan Valley.
