Fast Eddy’s Morley

I learnt two important lessons on Saturday. Firstly if it’s the sunny side of 40 degrees, then make sure wherever you plan on going for lunch has more than decent air-conditioning. And secondly, if you’ve been out for a particularly impressive burger the weekend before (Enter Café Downey http://atomic-temporary-19383105.wpcomstaging.com/2012/01/27/3680/), whose homemade patties were seriously delicious, then no freezer patty is going to cut it. One could venture that these were two difficult lessons to learn. Perhaps I over dramatise though.

I fancied wandering around the Galleria for a spell to suss out bargain summer clothes and asked GG if he fancied tagging along. He did, so I suggested we use the Entertainment Book voucher and 2 for 1 it at Fast Eddy’s. We drove over and managed to snag a car spot in the shade – oh happy days! The short walk across to Fast Eddys felt a lot longer given the bite of the sun at this stage – it was red hot. As we walked inside Fast Eddy’s it became apparent that their air conditioning was not up to the challenge of keeping such a large restaurant adequately cool. We decided we’d stay though and found ourself a table and had a look over their comically large, old school menus.

A drink was the first order of business and we both went with lemon, lime and bitters. Then it was onto the decision about food. I wasn’t starving so I figured I’d just go for a burger and GG shared a similar sentiment. I kept things simple with the basic option –  a Fast Eddy Burger – basically just the meat patty and salad on a bun, while GG opted for the slightly more extravagant Cop The Lot Burger, which also included cheese, bacon and egg.  Both burgers came with chips on the side.

It felt as we sat there that the place just kept getting hotter and hotter. When the food arrived (which was fairly swiftly, which I was incredibly grateful for) I felt like I was in a race to finish it so I could get the hell outta there! I started with a few chips. They were nice and crispy and well salted, so no complaints on that front, but given the heat I turned my attention to the burger.

I cut it in half and I remembered back to the week before and having looked at that beautiful homemade patty at Café Downey, compared to what was in front of me now. Definitely didn’t compare. Taste wise either, I mean it was fine, but sigh…. nothing special.

I ate the first half comfortably, then turned to GG who had wolfed down his burger, to ask for assistance. He helped me out and I snacked on a few more chips before racing for the exit and the coolness of the Galleria air conditioning.

Yes service had been fast and friendly and yes they can’t control the weather, but knowing that the food just wasn’t that special I know I wouldn’t rush to go back on a hot day. Perhaps winter is more the season for a Fast Eddy’s jaunt.
