The Brisbane Hotel

I hadn’t been to the Brisbane hotel in ages. And I like the Brisbane. Ever since they did their big fit out, which was a fair few years ago now, it has been a lovely pub to visit. Plenty of seating options, all very open and with the lovely alfresco area with plenty of greenery. Plus on the few occasions I had eaten there I had really enjoyed it. And I recalled on the last visit being particularly enamored with their prawn linguine, a delicious blend of Linguine, prawns, garlic, chilli, tomato, spinach.   So when I made a long awaited return visit recently and spied it on their menu I couldn’t wait to relive the experience and see if it could match my memory. And I knew it would be hard going because memories are prone to hyping things up….. well mine is at least.

It was quite a balmy summer day when I met two lovely ladies I know for a bite of lunch at the Brisbane on a recent Saturday. We opted to sit outside, which I was somewhat concerned about initially given the temperature and as I tend to consider myself an indoor person, but perched under an umbrella and next to the water feature it was actually quite pleasant. Colour me surprised 🙂
Now my raving about this pasta dish saw a clean sweep of orders for prawn linguine around the table. I really hoped it was as good as I remembered it years ago given this rash move!

I sipped on a particularly pleasant Monteiths Pear Cider, enjoying its subtle sweetness and fizz, perfect for summer, and soon enough three bowls of pasta arrived. I thought it looked great and you immediately knew a generous amount of garlic had been used in its creation. I’m very much pro garlic so I had no issue with this, keeps the vampires away or something 🙂 I also thought there was a very decent amount of prawns too! It all looked very pretty with the green from the spinach and the vibrant red from what I would soon discover were super sweet cherry tomatoes. I was sold from the first swirl of my fork and eager mouthful. Delicious flavours, well seasoned and plenty of prawns!

Consistency is a wonderful thing and it may have been a few years between visits but in my mind the Brisbane are still doing a very tasty prawn linguine! It’s a picturesque pub, centrally located and a nice spot to while away an afternoon for a catch up lunch and a chat. I am hopeful that it won’t be that long again before my next visit.

Next time try the arancini balls – to die for! And I don’t actually like sausage rolls but the ones here I love!

I definitely will! Great excuse for a return visit soon to try both of those things 🙂
