We are spoilt bunch in the West these days. There are just so many lovely local producers in WA that make amazing food, drink and kitchen inspired homeware products. So I welcomed the news from Westfield Whitfords City that for a few coming Saturdays from 9am til 2pm they would be holding ‘ The Market’.
“You’re keen to have your senses stimulated, souls nourished and kitchen cranking, then we welcome you to ‘The Market’.”
Each Saturday morning a collection of delectable offerings will be available – from fresh produce, a variety of street food and some hand crafted goodies from local artisans. You can trawl the stalls while enjoying some live music and there’s entertainment to keep the kids smiling too 🙂
The Market had its first week on Saturday May 9th and is going until May 31st. The line-up does vary on a weekly basis so best to keep an eye on Westfield Whitfords City’s facebook page for details of who will be there each Saturday. Those scheduled to appear include:
- Conscious Craves
- Sue Lewis Artisan Chocolates
- Tanya Mac Inspired
- Deezi Beez Snackz
- Shak Shuka
- The Honeycake
- Marcelita’s Empanadas
- West Oz Seafood
- Bangkok Jump Food
- Honey I’m Home
- The Boss Hoss BBQ
- Hot Pot Popcorn Co
- Inner Ego
- Gidge Gourmet Fudge
- Latasha’s Kitchen
- Pretty Sharp
I visited last Saturday and it made for a very tasty morning tea! I started my adventure with a visit to the Marcelita’s Empanadas stand. Empanada’s are a Colombian pastry made from corn meal with three different fillings available and Marcelita’s are amazing – beef, pork & lime or potato, take your pick….. or pick one of each 🙂 That’s what I did.
As with previous visits to Marcelita’s Empanadas stand at other markets and events around town they were as delicious as ever. So jammed packed with wonderful flavoursome ingredients and in their perfectly crispy pastry shell. I’d say the pork & lime is probably my favourite, though it’s a tough call because they are all great. I also really enjoyed the aji pique on the side. I’m trying to be more adventurous in the spicy stakes these days and while I’m sure it has been toned down to be a more broad crowd pleaser as a part of that broad crowd I did just love it!
I also spied the stand for The Honeycake. I was only recently introduced to The Honeycake and it was love at first bite!
“The Honeycake is a delicious combination of light honey flavoured layers and smooth milky caramel filling topped with ground walnuts”
It is really a perfect cake. For such indulgent ingredients it is actually quite light and incredibly moreish. I bought two slices for GG and I to share later that day. We had planned to just split one to start with and eat the other slice later but as soon as we’d polished off the first piece it was straight to the bag for the second. Yum!
And my final purchase was for the furry friend in my life, Chablis. Deezi Beez Snackz make homemade dog biscuits and I thought Chabs would just love the peanut butter flavour. As you can see from this pic she was did 🙂
It’s only quite a small market but it provides a great opportunity to try something different while out on a Saturday doing your food shop. So why not schedule in a visit to Westfield Whitfords City one Saturday soon so you too can sample some of these culinary delights!
My thanks to Westfield Whitfords City for the sample bag they sent me through and for bringing The Market to my attention 🙂
